With Watch Dogs 2 out tomorrow (TOMORROW!) on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, what better time to catch up on the in-depth behind the scenes Remote Access videos?
Meet Marcus and Dedsec
Lucien Soulban (scriptwriter) and Ruffin Prentiss (the actor behind main character Marcus Holloway) talk about Marcus and Dedsec, the hacker group he joins to fight back against the system. You’ll also meet some of the actors behind the rest of Dedsec’s diverse San Francisco cell, including reckless mask-wearer Wrench (Shawn Baichoo,) the artistic Sitara (Tasya Teles,) and super-hacker Josh (John Dubsky.)
Dedsec and Hacking
Senior Producer Dominic Guay, Creative Director Jonathan Morin, and Brand Content Director Thomas Geffroyd talk about how the games found inspiration in hacktivism and the information economy. This video talks about the teams work with hacking consultants, and how it has allowed them to treat serious subjects with respect and authenticity, while also bringing the fun.
Inside the Story
“The story of Watch Dogs 2 is about how Dedsec is allowing people to regain control of who they are based on the information that’s out there about them” says lead writer Lucien Soulban. While Watch Dogs focused on surveillance, Watch Dogs 2 is all about big data. How Blume (the corporation behind the ctOS surveillance system from the first game) scale up their abilities by compiling and manipulating personal data from other sources including search and social network giants – to serve their own agenda.
Living World of San Francisco
“We have an obsession with building a world that makes sense. We want our city to be credible before making a game – we call it a World First approach” explains Game Director Danny Belanger. This video talks about the work and research involved in building a world twice as big as the first Watch Dogs’ Chicago, and the tactics used to capture the varied vibes of the San Francisco Bay Area. This kind of in-depth world building is essential for a game where progression is focused on world exploration.
