As we’ve mentioned before, you’ll find plenty of local assistance with your mission to rid Hope County of the Eden’s Gate cult when Far Cry 5 releases later this month. So let’s take a rundown of some of the Guns and Fangs for Hire you’ll find in the game.
First up, there’s Boomer – the goodest of good boys. He wants revenge on the people who killed his humans, and in exchange for the occasional ear-rub he’ll act not only as an attack dog, but as a retriever (bringing you enemy weapons) and a pointer (tagging nearby enemies)
Next up is Jess Black, the hooded huntress. With her silent bow, she’s harder for enemies to detect than most – plus wild animals respect her as an apex predator, meaning they won’t attack.
Ex-military sniper and sharpshooting champion Grace Armstrong was the first Gun for Hire shown at E3 last year. Her green laser sight makes it easy for players to see where she’s targetting, plus her enviable reputation precedes her: all she has to do is take down one enemy to cause the rest to scatter.
Along with her heavily armed chopper, local entrepreneur and real estate agent Adelaide Drubman brings the big guns – the kind that are illegal in Canada.
A familiar face from Far Cry 5’s trailers, local pilot Nick Rye comes with his nimble floatplane Carmena. She’s equipped for both strafing and bombing runs. Nick’s wife has a bun in the oven, and he’s not about to let Eden’s Gate mess with his impending fatherhood.
Sharky Boshaw brings the fire with his home-made pyrotechnics and ferocious flame-thrower. Sharky’s love of flames has left him a bit of a loner, but make him your friend and you can rely on his shatterproof nature (he’s able to withstand most explosions and impacts.)
Following his globe-trotting appearances in Far Cry 3 and 4, Hurk Druban Jr. comes home to fight the good fight and protect his birthright. His skills with an RPG make him a particularly good asset against vehicles, as his rockets are both able to track moving targets and cause more damage than other folks’.
All those, and we haven’t even mentioned Cheeseburger, the large tame bear (and tourist favourite) who’ll put his considerable weight behind you in exchange for a few tasty salmon – or stealthy feline powerhouse Peaches. Let alone the co-op chaos of Friends for Hire, where you can bring a chum into the game to battle the cultists alongside you.
Far Cry 5 arrives on PS4, Xbox One and PC on the 27th of March. For more details, check out our previous coverage and stay tuned to Ubisoft Blog for all the latest.
