Never drive alone. That’s one of the core tenants behind Ubisoft’s new open-world racing adventure, The Crew. “We’re making it extremely easy to see the players that are around you, quickly group up with those guys, make new friends and take on missions cooperatively,” says Pete Young, Production Director at Ubisoft Reflections. The Crew encourages players to take on missions and challenges with friends, though you’re not required to. Story missions can be tackled by yourself or cooperatively with other players. You can also team up for PvP action, or simply drive around and find your own fun in the massive open-world playground.

The Crew - A Guided Look at Gameplay

Young assures us just because you join a crew doesn’t mean you’re automatically pulled into their missions. “If you want to group up, you send your friends an invite. It’s up to them to accept. If someone wants to do a mission, they propose it to the group. If your crew accepts the mission proposal then that’s that.”

Along with the multiplayer, The Crew is focusing on personalization. “We’re trying to treat the vehicles as almost an extension of your character. We want you to develop a real attachment to the vehicles, so of course you’re going to be able to customize it. You can strip it bare and then tweak all the internals to boost the performance. There’s almost an RPG progression to the game.”

The Crew – A Guided Look at the Gameplay

The guided gameplay video (below) explains multiple mission types and Skill challenges you’ll encounter throughout the world, including the co-op takedown mission we covered in our earlier hands-on preview. Follow four players spread across the country as Creative Director Julian Gerighty details the game’s multiplayer system and all The Crew’s basics.

i guess the will be a lot of the main US cities but i don't know if there will be all the US because it's pretty big and i guess it would take too much time to put every little detail.

Did they announce it will be all online? The fact that you can do it single player was mentioned. Maybe you don't need internet all the time unless your going to play with others? idk. Regardless, this game just made my to-buy list!

Always online is the deal breaker, Ubi. Thought we were over that.

Shame, because this feels like this generation's go-to racing game. True shame.
