EndWar Online Alpha 0.3.0 – The Next Major Update!
Welcome Generals, to version 0.3.0 of the EndWar Online Alpha, a next-gen browser game! As the game grows and we receive more feedback, we are able to gain a better understanding of how the game should look, feel, and play. Much of this recent update is based directly on your feedback and introduces many major changes, so join us as we check out what’s new and explain our design decisions.

REDESIGNS AND PLAYER CHOICE
Commander System
We wanted to give players more choices in patch 0.3.0, and the start of that was a redesign of the commander system. Previously, players had to spend resources to level their commanders, and then wait for their training to complete. The whole process was too direct and there was only one way to level up a Commander.

Based on player feedback, we’re now going with a completely different design philosophy. Leveling is instant and with each commander possessing five unique skills – which must manually upgraded – it’s up to players to decide how they want to develop their commanders. More commanders are available earlier as well, which means players can completely customize their play styles and use different strategies for each battle. Again, it’s all about offering players more choices and options.
Upgrading Equipment
Player choice is more prevalent when upgrading equipment as well. Materials – a new in-game resource – are now available in patch 0.3.0 and are used to improve equipment. However, materials are only available as item drops and mission rewards, so it might be a while before all equipment for all commanders can be fully upgraded. Before then, players will need to decide where they want to spend their resources, which will affect what kind of strategies they want to use.

HQ Management
Due to testing and usability purposes, we have temporarily simplified the HQ management process in patch 0.3.0. Instead of being able to upgrade a building every level, upgrades now start at level 20 and then become available every 10 levels.

The concept of “rebuilding your city” was welcomed by players, and has become a very important part of EndWar Online. We plan on adding more to this feature later on, but due to our redesign of the commander system, there are many balance changes to consider.
New Features
Friendly PvP Mode
We had two goals for the new Friend Match system. First, there are a limited number of players in the current Alpha test and it may be hard to find PvP matches through skirmishes. Friend Matches will temporarily alleviate that problem until we invite more players. It’s also a great way to play with friends and teach them the ropes or even test new tactics.

More importantly, however, this system is the starting point toward a Custom Match feature we have planned. Although it’s very basic at the moment, testing and feedback from Friend Matches will help us create the tools needed to set up custom tournaments and events in the future. We have many great activities planned for the community, but by evolving the Friend Match system, players will also be able to create their own activities.
