Assassin’s Creed Unity – Helpful Tips
The setting of Assassin’s Creed Unity is massive and dangerous. Why not get a little extra help as you begin your adventure through the French Revolution? We’ve assembled a list of ten helpful tips to get you started on your journey. From combat and useful skills to have early on in the game, to customizing your HUD and earning easy money, we’ve got you covered.

Run. Just Run.
It’s totally okay to just run away when the odds aren’t in your favor. You might be able to handle two or three opponents, but taking on five or six could be your undoing unless you are a skilled fighter with the right gear. Take advantage of the last known position system to make your escape and flee to the safety of the rooftops. Once you’re no longer being tracked, you can head back down to the ground and continue skulking.
Breaking and Entering
Lockpicking is a handy skill to have, and not just because you’ll need it in order to access certain chests in the world. There are also a lot of doors you can unlock in order to make your life easier on some missions, or even access hidden areas. You may even find some quests hidden behind locked doors as you explore Paris.
Looting
Looting has always been a standard in Assassin’s Creed, but in Unity it’s less about getting a few bucks off a corpse, and more about the bombs, ammo, lockpicks – and perhaps most important of all, medicine. That said, depending on the gear you’re wearing, you might see a higher cash flow when digging through the pockets of your fallen foes.
Group Skills
The cost of those Group Skills might seem a little daunting, but it’s much less so when you consider that you can use them in both co-op and single-player. So skills like Group Heal and Ammo Cache can benefit when you’re playing solo as well as when you’re helping out your team.

Morning, Noon and Night
Remember the Celestial Navigation Cheat from Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag? It was a personal favorite of mine. Well you can now access it at any point in the game, and not have to worry about your ability to save being disabled. You will lose your save data up to the point at which you change the time of day – but if you do so immediately after a save point, that won’t be an issue. Maybe you want to see what Paris looks like from the top of Notre Dame at night. That view is just a quick setting change away.
Tracking and Untracking Missions
Did you pick up a Paris Stories side mission and then start tracking a Nostradamus mission, causing you to lose sight of the original side mission on your map? Go into your Progress Tracker, scroll over to the Paris Stories section, and look through the list for the mission you were on. From here you can track this mission once more. Accept as many missions as you want, and you can track or untrack them from this menu. And remember, you can accept a mission without immediately tracking it. If you want to take it on, but don’t want to complete it right away, just accept without tracking to send it into your list of collected missions.
Parlez-vous Français?
Looking for an even more immersive experience? You can go into your language options and swap out English for French for an even more authentic feel. But unless you’re fluent in French you’ll probably also want to turn on English subtitles.
Second Screen Experience
Let the Assassin’s Creed Unity Companion app be your guide through the city of Paris. Take advantage of the 3D maps, heatmaps and database entries at the tip of your fingers, or explore the Nomad Missions and Glyph Puzzles for in-game rewards. You can also look through all the gear you’ve accumulated and compare the attributes of each piece to find the perfect set for your Arno.

Cafe Theatre
Whatever pace at which you choose to tackle the side missions, you should consider prioritizing the Cafe Theatre missions. Renovating your home base and doing missions to improve the value will pay big dividends. In fact, it’s one of the most lucrative sources of income in the whole game. Just pay some hard-earned cash upfront and watch the returns on your investment roll in.
How’s Your HUD?
I prefer to play games with an almost nonexistent HUD. Health indicator can stay, and having a map is handy sometimes, but for the most part I just want to know what direction I need to head in. If you’re like me, you might want to fiddle with the custom HUD settings.
Modules you can turn on/off for a custom HUD:
-
Mini-map
Player Widget
Conflict
Weapon Indicator
Mission Log
Friend Widget
Tutorials
Updates
Puppeteer
High Ground Indicators
Play around with all these settings until you find the perfect HUD for you. Of course, if you’re a complete minimalist, you can always turn the HUD off completely and just enjoy the icon free world around you. Or, even better, you can toggle your HUD on and off at any time by holding down the right thumbstick.
