Our previous Dev Q&A featuring Live Producer Michael Rowland was a great success. He spoke to players on a variety of subjects, from future updates to multiplayer to more in-depth technical details between next-gen and current gen systems.
In the second Dev Q&A held earlier this week on the Assassin’s Creed Twitter channel, players had the pleasure of chatting with Lead Multiplayer Game Designer Tim Browne regarding more in-depth design features in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag multiplayer.
Read below for a full transcript of the questions from players and Tim’s answers.
@Jaanii95 What was the reasoning for taking away chases in ACIV?
We found that chases often confused players, particularly new one. Though useful they’re not essential so we removed them.
@Alex_Hayekk Tim when you do so, can you let us know what changes are being made to Teleport, please?
Any tweaks or changes we make that will be in patches will be detailed on the forum.
@GIZMO_DRAG0N Will we see any changes to smokes delay? As of now it’s a little too long. Crafting option?
We’re happy with the delay on the smoke. It takes more skill to use it now and we’ve seen a lot of players love the change.
@TheEViLN Is it possible to add more parameters to Game Lab and will you add more?
Game Lab offers a huge amount of parameters already. We’ll look into the potential in the future though.
@AnalogousPrune9 Will old modes from previous games be coming to Game Lab? Ex: STA/Alliance/Corruption… etc
As I mentioned previously we’ll look into the potential of adding more parameters. Alliance, however, can’t return. The reason Alliance can’t come back is that it uses 3 teams of 2 players. None of the game systems support 3 teams any longer.
@CVEGAMING Please don’t remove Pistolier from Game Lab it’s so much fun. Could you add it to the playlist rather than remove it?
I’m happy to hear you love Pistolier. It won’t be gone for long. We want to let other players’ Game Labs have a chance to shine.
@Ted95OnDo you keep track of what everyone’s most used character is and could that be shown in-game?
Yes we do track everyone’s most used character. That’s why the Huntsman and the Nightstalker made a return.
@Your1nnate Focus is arguably harder to achieve than any of the current “multipliers.” Why keep it at +150 instead of x2 or something?
Focus isn’t a multiplier, it’s a bonus. You can now score 50pts on a half Focus also, so I think 150pts is fine.
@JR_kell Is it intentional that variety bonuses are very difficult to get?
We changed the variety system to make it slightly harder, but we also allow you to get it as many times as you want.
@DanielLove2512 Me and my friend loved playing Alliance in Brotherhood since it was just us in a team. Any plans for a mode with teams of 2?
We don’t have any plans to bring back modes that use teams of 2 currently.
@rhys_mcgovern Would you ever add weapons that you can equip around the multiplayer map (like better swords etc) on multiplayer?
Weapons are mainly aesthetic though they do dictate some of the kill animations. We do place a few contextual kill weapons, though.
@ndarkness Any chance in future releases that we can craft abilities 2 different ways? Ex: defensive craft and offensive craft
That’s an interesting idea. The system doesn’t allow it currently, though you can re-craft at anytime.
@BBBracer What’s the actual idea for keeping Money Bomb? Moreover, how do you find this ability useful in competitive matches?
Moneybomb is a useful early ability. Not all abilities are designed to be used in competitive matches.
@jamanassersaid Who is your favorite character in the multiplayer?
My favorite female is The Puppeteer, my favorite male is The Dandy and my favorite DLC character is The Orchid.
